DEWC Services has been named South Australian winner of the Defence Reserves and Employer Support Award for the second time, demonstrating the company’s outstanding level of support for ADF reservists in the workplace.

The company has taken out the medium private category in the 2024 Awards, less than two years after winning it in 2022. The award formally acknowledges businesses that go above and beyond in accommodating reservists and helping them fulfill their military duties.

DEWC Services General Manager for People and Culture, Deb Penaluna, said to be recognised twice is a significant achievement that demonstrates DEWC Services' strong commitment to supporting Australia’s national defence efforts by actively encouraging and accommodating employees who serve as reservists.

“We are proud of our reservists and truly value the important role they play in the defence of our country. It is an honour to receive this award, which is a testament to DEWC’s commitment in providing exceptional support to enable our reservists to balance their civilian and military roles,” she said.

“Whether it be through providing flexibility and paid leave for training, deployments or other military obligations, or ensuring that our reservists do not face disadvantages because of their service, we remain committed to going beyond standard employment practices, fostering a culture which values service.”

DEWC Services EW Consultant Stephen Morse said the company’s continued support, through initiatives such as the Reserve Leave Policy, has alleviated the challenges of balancing civilian and miliary obligations.

“DEWC’s Reserve Leave Policy allows me the opportunity to spend some time back in uniform and continue to serve the ADF. It gives me immense satisfaction to meet my military commitments in a specialist field that I particularly enjoyed when I was a full-time member,” he said.

DEWC Services was selected for the award following a rigorous evaluation process involving a scoring matrix and assessments by a panel of representatives from the Navy, Army, Air Force, and independent industry expert.
