DEWC Services launches into UNSW Canberra City Campus’ innovation hub
Leading Defence C4ISREW specialist DEWC Services is the first South Australian company to join a defence and security innovation hub at the new UNSW Canberra City Campus, as part of its expansion into Canberra.
The company, which provides Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare (C4ISREW) solutions to Defence, will co-locate with other high-tech companies, researchers and organisations, boosting collaboration opportunities in the defence and security sector.
By 2026, the UNSW Canberra City Campus will be home to a new Defence and Security Innovation Precinct, which will facilitate unprecedented research and development across areas like cyber security, space, and systems engineering.
DEWC Services’ decision to join the growing Launch community at UNSW Canberra City Campus comes after the company and UNSW Canberra signed a Memorandum of Understanding, signalling their commitment to jointly tackle defence research challenges.
DEWC Services CEO Allan Dundas said being based at UNSW Canberra City Campus will give the company greater access to high-quality research and opportunities to foster powerful collaborations that will help advance Australia’s defence and security capabilities.
“We are excited to be part of the new UNSW Canberra City Campus. It will be a unique opportunity to connect with a broad ecosystem of researchers, innovators, educators and businesses in the defence and emerging technology sectors,” Dundas said.
“It will strengthen our relationship with the UNSW Canberra and allow us to tap into their research expertise and guide them in the commercialisation of their research, while also opening avenues for further research collaboration in other defence-related areas in the future.”
DEWC Services principal EW consultant and Canberra research lead Dr. Aaron Matthews said being located at the new campus will create work-integrated learning opportunities for UNSW students and graduates studying in the areas of engineering, technology and defence.
“We are keen to engage with UNSW students by offering internships that will empower them with practical workplace experience and skills in the defence industry,” Dr. Matthews said.
“Working closely with UNSW students also brings fresh perspectives, new skills and innovative ideas to our company. It will help DEWC Services scale up as we look to grow our future workforce of electronic warfare and engineering experts.”
UNSW Canberra Associate Dean of research engagement Professor Andrew Neely welcomed DEWC Services to the UNSW Canberra City Campus Launch community.
“The fact that DEWC Services has affirmed their commitment to be part of the launch community of the new UNSW Canberra City Campus is a significant sign of support for the project,” Prof. Neely said.
“It suggests that DEWC Services sees the campus as an important opportunity to collaborate with other industry partners, government agencies, and academics on research and development in the defence and security sector.”

The UNSW Canberra City Campus is expected to attract around 6,000 local and international students and will offer a range of range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as research and development opportunities once operational. expected to create over 2,000 jobs and generate up to $3 billion in economic benefits for the ACT.
